Protecting Open Space and Restoring Native Habitat

The Issaquah Alps Trails Club (IATC) has long advocated for the protection of Park Pointe Open Space, a forested area on the slopes of Tiger Mountain overlooking Issaquah. In the early 2000s, a development proposal for more than 300 housing units threatened the property and nearby trail access. After years of community advocacy and collaboration with the City of Issaquah, 144 acres were permanently preserved in 2011, including 101 acres at Park Pointe and 43 acres west of Central Park in Issaquah Highlands.

Today, IATC works with Green Issaquah and community volunteers to restore native habitat at Park Pointe. This work builds on the area's conservation legacy while supporting Issaquah's Climate Action Plan goal of achieving 55% tree canopy cover by 2035.

Why Restore Park Pointe?

Park Pointe provides valuable forest habitat, recreational opportunities, and a connection to the natural landscape of Tiger Mountain. Ongoing restoration helps safeguard this open space by reducing invasive plant growth and supporting greater biodiversity. Over time, these efforts contribute to a healthier, more resilient open space for wildlife and the community.

This project is made possible through a partnership between the Issaquah Alps Trails Club and Green Issaquah/City of Issaquah, with grant sponsorship from Foundation for Intelligent Life on Earth and King County Parks.

Our Restoration Work

IATC and Green Issaquah organize regular volunteer work parties at Park Pointe, typically on the third Saturday of each month. Volunteers remove invasive plants, including Himalayan blackberry, and prepare restoration areas for native tree and plant installations. These efforts help newly planted vegetation become established and improve conditions for native species to thrive.

Upcoming Events

Help restore Park Pointe Open Space by joining an IATC and Green Issaquah restoration event. Volunteers help remove invasive plants, prepare restoration areas, and support native planting efforts. No special experience is needed.
