High School Trail
Issaquah, WA 98027
Connecting Community and Nature
Named for its location near Issaquah High School, High School Trail provides a longstanding connection between the community and the forested slopes of Tiger Mountain. As Issaquah grew, trails like this helped preserve public access to the surrounding natural landscape, connecting neighborhoods with nearby parks and open spaces.
Today, the trail serves as a gateway to Tiger Mountain's broader trail network and nearby natural areas, including Park Pointe Open Space. Together, these connections provide valuable opportunities for recreation, wildlife habitat, and experiencing the natural beauty of the Issaquah Alps close to home.
Our Restoration Work
In 2023, the Issaquah Alps Trails Club (IATC) partnered with Green Issaquah to restore native habitat along High School Trail. Community volunteers participated in seven restoration events from April through November, removing invasive vegetation and planting native trees and shrubs. At the final restoration event in November, volunteers planted 20 trees and 41 shrubs.
Restoring native vegetation helps improve wildlife habitat, support biodiversity, reduce the spread of invasive plants, and strengthen the health of the urban forest. Healthy tree canopy also provides shade, helps manage stormwater, and contributes to a more resilient community.
Today, IATC continues to work with Green Issaquah and community volunteers at various restoration sites throughout Issaquah. These projects build on the area's conservation legacy while supporting the City's climate and urban forestry goals.
This project is made possible through a partnership between the Issaquah Alps Trails Club
and Green Issaquah/City of Issaquah.
Trail Work in Action
Get Involved
While restoration work along High School Trail has wrapped up, IATC and Green Issaquah continue caring for adjacent Park Pointe Open Space. Volunteers gather regularly, typically on the third Saturday of each month, to remove invasive plants, maintain restoration areas, and support native tree and shrub plantings. This ongoing work improves wildlife habitat and helps protect Park Pointe's natural landscape.
