Showcasing Urban Forestry in Action
Meet at the Confluence Park picnic shelter and then join one of a series of themed walking tours through Confluence Park and nearby restoration sites. These guided tours will showcase the City’s progress in ecological restoration, land acquisition, and community engagement. Topics include:
Creek Restoration & Storm Recovery: Urban Forest Supervisor Dan Hintz will lead a tour of Issaquah Creek, focusing on its ecological restoration and ongoing recovery from the bomb cyclone.
Miyawaki Forest Planting: Green Issaquah Volunteer Coordinator Tayler Nichols will share the story of the City's first Miyawaki Forest, a high-density, fast-growing native forest planted with the help of local volunteers.
Living with Wildlife: Park Ranger Alex Anderson will explore strategies for coexisting with wildlife within Issaquah’s urban parks and hillsides.
From Creeks to Peaks: Parks & Community Services Director Jeff Watling will discuss Issaquah’s long-term vision for open space preservation and the City’s strategic land acquisition efforts to connect natural areas from the lowlands to the mountains.
A Community Conversation with Mayor Pauly
Following the tours, participants will gather for an open conversation with Mayor Mary Lou Pauly, focusing on the future of urban forestry, sustainable funding, and how local advocacy can make a difference. Bring your questions, your ideas, and your vision for urban forests in Issaquah.
